Maybe it’s the coalescing of circumstances, the COVID-19 shut down, the civil unrest, my observation and interpretation of our leadership’s reaction to different crisis situations, the general state of society, my own aging and the realization I don’t have as much time left to get something BIG done in my career or, maybe it’s all of those things in some form or another, but I’ve decided it’s time to speak up, step up, make a difference, be heard, make a statement, make an impact, get out of my introvert and risk everything for the future of my children and grandchildren. But why do you care about that? Or me? Or what I’m doing?

Here’s why. I hope. Over thirty-five years of doing what I do, I’ve developed certain skill sets. Apparently, those skill sets are somewhat unique to me. I’ve managed, by my rough calculation to help facilitate somewhere around $1 billion of philanthropic dollars. I’m proud of this. Happy about it. But, apparently, it hasn’t been enough. And, apparently, I have more I want to accomplish before I quit doing what I’m doing. Couple that with the fact that I’ve been listening to a number of different podcasts, many led by Dan Sullivan, The Strategic Coach, whose training I took for three years many years ago. I respect Dan’s thought process and insights and as I listen today I recognize I have so much in common with the entrepreneurs he constantly describes.
Anyway, one of the main mantras of what he and others are talking about is the idea of exponential growth. Don’t think about growing by ten percent, instead think about growing by ten times. Ten times. No small feat. That will take new skills, new relationships, new thought processes. What do I set my sights on and where do I begin?

Well, my ten times means that I want to facilitate $10 Billion of new philanthropy before I end my career. Yes, Ten billion with a B. No small challenge. But, then, if it was easy, it wouldn’t be a challenge.

There’s a lot to work out. How to keep score. What counts? Who cares? All of these things will evolve. What’s important to me right now is to step forward and tell you about this. If you want to be part of this, you’ll find a way. If not, no big deal. Maybe my timing sucks. Maybe no one cares. But I do. I’ve got nothing to lose. If I fall short by some amount, I’ll still accomplish something. No downside. And, if I hit the number quickly, I promise, I’ll just raise the bar to some new, crazy goal and go for that.
